Capitol
Associates, LLC was first started in 1975 as Capitol Square Associates,
founded by Richard Arnesen, MD and Lawrence Wolfinsohn, Ph.D. At that
time, there were just two partners practicing at 101 S. Hancock. Later
they moved into a historic landmark home at 14 S. Broom Street which was
converted into professional offices.
Since the beginning, Drs. Arnesen and Wolfinsohn invited selected clinicians
who wanted to practice on a full or part-time basis in their group. In
1985 Linda Bloom, Psy.D. and Johna Gerasch, Ph.D. started practicing with
Capitol Square. In 1991 these four clinicians, along with three others,
reorganized the group and created a partnership. We had outgrown our space
on Broom Street and moved to a large suite of offices at the City Station
Building on the corner of W. Washington and Regent Street.
Capitol Square Associates
continued to recruit both part-time and full-time clinicians and remained
at the City Station Building for 10 years. With the population shifts
and growth in Dane County and the rising rents and limited parking downtown,
Capitol Square Associates decided to move again to their current location
in Research Park. This new location provided the ample parking needed
for clients and easy access by bus for students and others without cars.
Since the practice was no longer located "on the square",
it was decided to rename the practice to reduce possible confusion for
new clients. Thus we are now Capitol Associates, LLC.
In 2002 Richard
Arnesen, MD, retired and the group at CA provided a tribute to his founding
of and dedication to the practice. Later that year, Dr. Arnesen passed
away. Dr. Arnesen is missed by all those who knew and worked with him.
Today the practice
thrives with several full and part-time support staff and more than
a dozen practicing clinicians including psychiatrists, psychologists,
social workers and other therapists. We continue to be progressive in
our thinking, and recently diversified by adding an occupational therapist
to the clinical group.
